…oh – OK, River boaters as well. As I live aboard my narrow boat I have been thinking for some time about combining the two sides of my life and holding first aid courses for boaters…well this is up and running like a hare now that I have asked around and a lot of interest has been generated among the boat community.

One thing we like about being on a boat is that you leave the roads and noise behind. Unfortunately medical help is road based in this country…so rather than rely on an ambulance being with you in minutes, having the skills to look after a casualty until they can get there is viotally important. Some boaters are elderly; heart attack, stroke, and infirmity can make an isolated location doubly dangerous. In the course I will also be looking at emergency planning and summoning help effectively when you are not right next to a road. At the moment I don’t have a specific page on the site devoted to boaters…but it is coming (along with extra website size)!

The aim is to run the courses at marinas central to each region of the canal network – Lancs, Yorkshire, Shroppie, BCN, GU, East Anglila, London and the K&A. they will either be a one day, or two evening course and I’m keeping the cost down to a minimum – please contact me direct for further info! Stay safe – Jas

Hi and welcome to the Northern Lights Training site….if you have been here before you will have noticed that there haven’t been a lot of updates recently. I spent a couple of years working as head of UK and European events for a charity event company. That didn’t leave a lot of time to run things here, and after two seasons it felt like the right time to make NLT the priority. Exciting things are going to be happening this year including the launch of Northern Lights Treks. At present the site is being updated, but as soon as that is complete there will be new features, photos and down-loadable stuff as well as interactive online course calendars and booking forms. Please come back for a look soon, or contact me direct if you want to discuss a course. Happy 2012 everyone!
